Meet Theresa Somrak (she/hers)

Licensed Professional Counselor
Clinical Rehabilitation Counselor

I provide mental health counseling services to adults for anxiety/depression and other mood-related mental health disorders,  trauma/grief, relational issues, and adjustment challenges. I specialize in supporting individuals with disabilities and chronic illness/pain as a Clinical Rehabilitation Counselor.

I am especially interested in helping individuals with ADHD, traumatic losses and grief, chronic health issues, career and life phase transitions, and maintaining quality of life through disability and end-of-life.

I enjoy working with clients who feel like they are different in some way or are struggling but motivated to find their own way through life, including those with neurodiversity, marginalized gender, sexual or other identities, and medical/institutional trauma.

What I can help with

Why Choose Tended Path Therapy?

What I can help with

Health Issues & Chronic Pain

I know firsthand how managing chronic health issues can feel like a fulltime job. I can support you in coping with your symptoms, managing your own recovery journey, and implementing skills and strategies to increase moments of ease or satisfaction.

Career & Life Transitions

Existing in our capitalistic culture can be hard. Aging can be hard. A supportive, therapeutic relationship can help you develop your inner compass, act with intention, find ease where possible, and build resilience and confidence through life's trails.

Trauma Recovery

Individuals who've experienced "big T traumatic" events as well as more complex traumatic experiences may benefit from processing and coming to terms with them in a way that allows the events to fully rest in the past. I am responsive to an individual's history and can help them learn new coping tools to manage what comes up along the way, with the goal of helping them feel more able to move beyond past hurts and forward with their lives.

Depression, Anxiety, & Mood-Related Mental Health Disorders

It's not "just all in your head."  There are real and different neurological and physiological processes happening for people when they are experiencing anxiety and depression symptoms.

Counseling can help individuals find some relief by providing different ways to think about and approach situations, identify and resolve stressors, and make choices and changes that create a healthy environment for themselves. I take a collaborative approach that focuses on reducing symptoms, including education on neurobiology. You are the expert on you, while I provide education, tools and skills that have been proven to improve mental wellness and personal functioning.

Whether your loved one has died or you've had a different kind of loss, grief can be gutting. Counseling can help you cope with grief and construct a new life after significant losses. I have a special place in my heart for grieving clients. Those who "get it," get it.

Grief & Loss

ADHD

My lived experience with ADHD and highly collaborative approach allow me to work well with individuals who want to find some relief from their symptoms. Learning to leverage your strengths in addition to building new skills and strategies can go a long way in overcoming ADHD-related difficulties.

Relational Skills

Developing insight into your default behaviors and interactions with other people can bring clarity and choice to your relationships. I help individuals explore and understand their dynamics and desires in relation to others, and learn effective communication skills to step out of unhealthy patterns and build more authentic relationships.

Disability Adjustment & Advocacy

More than 1 in 4 adults in America have a disability (CDC, 2024), and most of us will experience a disability over the course of our lifetimes. Whether someone was born with a disability or is experiencing new limitations, counseling can help an individual figure out what they can do with what they have, develop new methods of doing what they want and need to do, cope with the impact of living in a society that devalues disabled people, and adjust their outlook and lifestyle to build a satisfying life. I strive to empower individuals through this process as well as provide support and coaching for navigating systems and being an effective self-advocate.
